    SAP Simple Finance, currently known as SAP S/4HANA Finance solution is an ERP financial software that runs on the in-memory platform of SAP HANA, and supports financial planning and accounting, accounting and financial close, treasury and cash management, accounts payable and receivable, risk management, and more.

    SAP Central Finance or CFIN is a deployment option of SAP S/4HANA that brings financial transactions from legacy ERPs (SAP or non-SAP systems) into the SAP S/4HANA table, following a common data format. Central Finance is one of the most effective options for deploying SAP S/4HANA finance solutions as it doesn’t interrupt the legacy systems by allowing them to remain in their existing environments.

    SAP S/4HANA Finance is basically the modified version of SAP Simple Finance. SAP Simple Finance is apparently the first business application developed for the financial functions on the SAP HANA Platform. While SAP S/4HANA offers complete Finance Business solutions, SAP Simple Finance carries some add-on features on EHP 7. Besides Finance functions, SAP S/4HANA supports Logistics functions. SAP S/4HANA Finance includes SAP Accounting, SAP Treasury & Cash Management, and SAP BPC.

    The Universal Journal can be termed as a single source of truth that collects all accounting-related transactions and makes them available to all relevant application components: Financial Accounting (General Ledger), Controlling, Asset Accounting, and Material Ledger. It brings together the two components – Financial Accounting (FI) and Controlling (CO) into a single pool of relevant business data.

    By combining the most important fields from these components within a single line item table, the Universal Journal enables the components to read and process the data from a single location. This eliminates reconciliation activities and data redundancies, and reduces the memory footprint and increases the throughput of the system. It also benefits companies by reducing the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).

    The major transformation triggered by SAP S/4HANA is the unification and standardization of business process execution methods. Previously, Functions were used as separate instances in the SAP Business Suite. These are now bundled in SAP S/4HANA. S/4 Finance introduces a lot of new features such as General Ledger, Business Partner Approach, and Central Journal.

    The functional modules in finance and accounting include Financial Planning and Analysis, Accounting and Financial Close, Accounts Payable and Receivable, Treasury and Financial Risk Management, Financial Operations, and Governance, Risk, & Compliance for Finance.
